Actually, it’s my birthday so I have completely restructured my e-School and Proofreading prices for the rest of 2014! I’ve cut the prices almost in half, compared to 2013!
Proofreading is now only £25 (€30) per thousand words!
E-school is now only £25 (€30) per hour!
Now, don’t tell me your company can’t afford to invest at these prices!

Why we should learn idioms, but not use them …

From my wife’s Facebook post:

I just walked through the living room with Mayday (our dog) at my heels. Suddenly there was a loud clang.
Malcolm: “What was that?”
Me: “I just kicked the bucket.”
The coal bucket, to be exact.

If you don’t know that the idiom ‘kick the bucket’ means to die, you’ll never guess why everyone is laughing. Obviously my wife could not have died, as she was the one who said it. However, if you were talking about someone else – “He kicked the bucket” – there could be quite a shocked reaction 😉

The English use a lot of idioms, and it is good for non-native speakers to learn them, so they can understand the finer points of the conversation. However, using idioms in international business is not a good idea, simply because they will probably be misunderstood.
